Born in Keighley in 1955, David was educated at St. Anne’s Primary and St. Bede’s Grammar schools before entering Yorkshire Bank in 1973. After qualifying he held several managerial appointments in Training and Career Development before establishing in 1996 his own company specialising in Banking and Financial Training which he ran with his wife before retiring in 2015.
Besides taking him all over the World, this allowed David time to give to voluntary and public service work which continues to dominate his life.
He is a Chairman on the Bradford Bench where he has served since 1997, has been a mentor with the Prince’s Trust and sat on and worked for numerous charitable bodies. He has been a volunteer with the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway since 1968, for which he created its supporting Charitable Trust and of which he was its first Chairman. He has served the Railway at various times as Secretary and Vice-Chairman and remains a Guard, Stations Volunteer and Tour Guide.
Married since 1990 to Elaine a county standard golfer, home is in the middle of Haworth which they both love because it’s always like being on holiday; David was Gazetted Deputy Lieutenant in December 2013.
Especially interested in British political and constitutional history with an emphasis on the Monarchy, David is a published authority on British railway history and a very active public speaker in all of these areas. Besides wallowing in the music of Tallis, Gibbons, Purcell, Handel, Croft, Arne, Holst, Elgar, Parry, Vaughan-Williams and Walton, the works of the Brontes make him feel at home whilst P.G. Wodehouse fuels his sense of humour. David holds an MA from York University in Railway History and is a Fellow of numerous professional and academic bodies.
