Michael spent the first twenty eight years of his business career with Arthur Andersen, ultimately becoming UK Regional and Senior managing partner as well as Head of the UK Government Practice.
Upon retiring in 2001, Michael developed a number of businesses centred around healthcare and property, before in 2009 focussing exclusively on OneMedicalGroup, an award-winning solutions and healthcare provider to the NHS where he is the majority shareholder. In business he is also Chairman of Seneca Partners Limited and Indepen Limited.
His main charitable commitment since 2013 is to the MCO ( ie Monteverdi Choir , English Baroque Soloists and Orchestre Revolutionnaire and Romantique ) for Sir John Eliot Gardiner. He is a member of the Court of the University of Leeds, on its Commercialisation Advisory Board and its Campaign Board which since 2008 has raised circa £85m.
He was previously Chairman of Opera North from 1998 to 2010 and Leeds Philharmonic Society from 1993 to 1997. He was also a founder Board member of West Yorkshire Police Community Trust.
Michael was also a member from 2000 to 2006 of the IDAB (Industrial Development Board) at the then Department of Trade and Industry; on the Advisory Board at University of Leeds Business School from 2002 to 2008 and a Governor of Leeds Metropolitan University from 1991 to 1998.
