Gwendoline Gallear BEM

Gwendoline Gallear was presented with her BEM by the Lord-Lieutenant of West Yorkshire, Dame Ingrid Roscoe, at a lunchtime celebration function held at Bowcliffe Hall, Wetherby.

The British Empire Medal was re-introduced as part of the Honours Awards in 2012 and Gwendoline was one of seven recipients in West Yorkshire.

Gwendoline Gallear has devoted over 30 years of her life to helping to raise funds for disabled and sick children, so their lives could be made a little better.

Over the years, Gwendoline has become a staunch supporter and a regular visitor to the Pinderfield Hospital School at Wrenthorpe and her passion and devotion to the School has made a huge impact to the children who look forward to her visits.

Gwendoline enthuses the youngsters with her tales of the bygone days and her childhood, which always include pieces of memorabilia and photographs and that never fail to stimulate their youthful curiosity.

Gwendoline has also raised funds for the School by sewing lavender bags, peg bags and various other household items and also organised coffee mornings, jumble sales and fetes. She has also held community events to coincide with national celebrations to make the most of the fund-raising opportunity.
