The Vice Lord-Lieutenant

John Brennan was born in 1941. Following his education at Ampleforth and Keble College, Oxford, he went to Barcelona University to study Spanish Literature before joining the family textile business in 1963.

Still with the family business, Associated Textiles Co. Ltd., he is also retained as a consultant by a French textile company which had purchased the trading division of Associated Textiles.

Appointed an OBE in 1990, John Brennan became a Deputy Lieutenant in 1991 and High Sheriff of West Yorkshire in 1998. He has also sat on Bradford City Council, chaired the British Wool Federation, Bradford Conservative Federation and the Finance Committee of the Yorkshire Agricultural Society. He and his family actively support several charities, including Cancer Relief, NSPCC and RNLI.

Married to Claire Linnell in 1984, they have three children and live in the family home in Rawdon, Leeds. The Vice Lord-Lieutenant describes his hobbies as including

Watching cricket (enthusiasticaly)
Playing golf (badly)
Enjoying classical music
Restoring their house and garden in France
