The Lieutenancy Team

The West Yorkshire Lieutenancy

The Lieutenancy is very much a team.

The Lord-Lieutenant, with the Queen's approval, may appoint one of the Deputy Lieutenants to be the Vice Lord-Lieutenant, to stand in when the Lord-Lieutenant is absent, sick or otherwise unable to act. A limited number, at present, 45, of Deputy Lieutenants, chosen for their contribution to the county in a voluntary capacity, are also appointed by the Lord-Lieutenant with the Queen's approval, and assist the Lord-Lieutenant when appropriate

The Lieutenancy Team is aided and administered by the Clerk to the Lieutenancy, an ancient title which rather disguises the nature of the job!
