Kate is currently Honorary President of the Pennine Calder District Scouts, an assessor for the Duke of York Community Initiative Award and for the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.
She is strongly committed to developing the role of the Third Sector as an equal partner in shaping civil society and has always played an active part in the local community. In addition to volunteering in parent, school and young mother support, Kate has previously chaired the Board of Governors at a local primary school and acted as secretary to a small charity promoting advocacy for people with learning disabilities. Recognising the need for global understanding and sharing of skills, learning and support, Kate has worked on charitable projects in Romania.
Kate is a retired NHS Associate Director for Corporate Social Responsibility. In this role she was responsible for strategy implementation on the sustainable development agenda covering, employment, capital, procurement, environment, local strategic partnerships, occupational health services, equality and human rights. A key area of work was establishment and implementation of an employability scheme to increase access to NHS careers for those who were previously economically inactive.
Kate is a nurse with a broad clinical and managerial experience in the health service. Previous senior posts include practice development in clinical information systems, intensive care and infection control. Her most previous post as an Associate Director of Nursing included managing professional corporate portfolios in medicines management and clinical governance in addition to Divisional responsibility within medicine and complex care. Kate’s managerial history includes redesign of services, clinical work development re-processing and PFI hospital commissioning.
A graduate of the Cabinet Office Public Service Leaders Scheme, Kate worked on secondment to the Department of Health on a range of International issues and in support of the British Healthcare Industries export agenda.
