Squadron Leader David Dinmore entered the Royal Air Force College at Cranwell in January 1963, graduating in December 1965. He was a Vulcan bomber pilot on 35 Squadron at RAF Cottesmore and RAF Akrotiri, Cyprus, and on 44 Squadron at RAF Waddington. He later joined 10 Squadron at RAF Brize Norton, flying VC10 transports until 1978.
David was promoted to Squadron Leader in 1975. He was Commander of No.1 Squadron on HM The Queen’s Silver Jubilee Parade and captain of the aircraft carrying HRH The Prince of Wales to Australia in 1978. He retired from the Royal Air Force in 1980.
He was Bursar and Clerk to the Governors of Silcoates School in Wakefield between 1980 and 2004 and part-time Clerk to the Governors from 2004 to 2015. He was national Chairman of the Independent Schools’ Bursars Association from 1997 to 1999.
David first joined the Scout Movement in 1952 and went on to be Chief Commissioner of England and was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Scout Association from 1994 to 2001. He is now President of Wakefield District and Vice-President of Central Yorkshire Scouts.
He is also Honorary President of 2387 (Pudsey) Squadron, Air Training Corps, Chairman of the Community Foundation for Wakefield District, a Governor of the King’s School Pontefract Foundation and a member of the Committee of the Friends of Wakefield Cathedral.
