The County of West Yorkshire

The County of West Yorkshire

In 1986, the County of West Yorkshire, previously a major part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, was subject to a further reorganisation.

The administrative powers of the West Riding County Council were, to a very large extent, devolved to the five Metropolitan Areas which now make up the County.

Leeds City Council
Bradford Metropolitan
Borough Council
City of Wakefield Metropolitan Borough Council
Calderdale Metropolitan Borough Council
Kirklees Metropolitan Borough Council

West Yorkshire has a population of about 2.1 million and an area of 787 square miles.
